Tamil Christian Fellowship
Tamil Christian Fellowship is an inter-denominational Christian Church built by the Lord Himself in the pattern of the early Christian church at Antioch. It has been in existence by sovereign grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ since 1978 to build Christian believers and to reach out seekers based in Abu Dhabi. Many men and women of God have sacrificially offered their time, efforts, and resources over these four decades. However, this church was not formed by inspiration or help from any specific human endeavor of particular denomination or society from the East or the West. It was founded and is now sustained purely by the irrevocable calling of God.

There are unique challenges posed by the laws of this land. The Lord turned that difficultly of bringing ordained full time ministers to an opportunity to enable many lay people – who are living in Abu Dhabi for their contractual work – to serve the Lord and this ministry as lay servants – building this local church in the pattern of early churches founded in the first century as seen in the Book of Acts. A group of about 10 to 12 volunteering elders, along with scores of sister and brothers divide up the church responsibilities among themselves and work during their spare time which is often sparse here. None of them is compensated by the church for their work. They all are in secular jobs and instead support this Church ministry through their financial contributions as well. There are no elections to the church committees and there are no positions to be elected to. Willing servants follow the Lord Jesus Christ, truly as the Chief Shepherd of this local church. As remarkable strength of this Church is that over 90% of the members at any given time have come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ only after coming to this church. There is a strong evangelistic focus, with major emphasis on small group Bible studies and other outreach activities through the week from a humble beginning of about thirty or so members in 1978, the fellowship has now grown to about 400 regular members now. In 2010 alone, over 600 new seekers attended the Church services for the first time. Disproportional to this membership at any given time, due to the floating nature of workers in the region, possibly over 1,000 people have been touched by our Savior through this local church over these years and are now scattered across the globe.
The opportunities provided by this unique setting – also lead to development of most of those fresh converts to servants in His Kingdom. Soon after conversion, all believers are encouraged to serve the Lord in areas of their unique gifts and calling to meet the needs of this church. All teaching, preaching, worship ministries, youth and children ministries, theological studies and the like are handled only by the church members – without taking the easy recourse from external preachers and ministers. Most of the Lord’s servants including elders are also converts of this local church. Though this church itself is not served previously by full time ministers, scores of believers who went back to their home countries are now serving the Lord as full time pastors, missionaries and servants. Most expats work in this region on a limited duration contract. As a result, many elders and lay workers serve for a limited time and leave Abu Dhabi. But this Lord ordained ministry has been growing steadily – He has always provided new servants to take up the responsibilities of others who leave the country.
